Different types of SnowStorms

There are different types of snow storms. These are not exactly blizzards but they can do things like blizzards. Ice Storms are when freezing rain to at least 1/4 inch or more. Freezing rain is caused by rain droplets that encounter freezing temperatures at the surface. Then the rain freezes as soon as it its the ground.

When this rain freezes into ice on the roads, trees, and power lines it creates danger on roads and has a possibility of making a power outage.

                                                      Lake Effect

Lake effect snows occur when a mass of cold air moves over warmer water, creating an unstable temperature in the atmosphere. After that it builds clouds over the lake and eventually develop into snow showers as they move. The lake effect snow is increased when higher elevations downwind of the lake force cold air.

The setting of this happening is when very cold arctic air rushes over warmer water and the heels of a passing cold front. This normally happens on the great lakes during winter.
